Ramen for Dinner. What do you think?
I was working late last night so I didn’t leave the office until 10PM. The ramen place near my new apartment was one of the only options open at this hour so I decided to pop in and see how it was.
I ordered Chyashyu Ramen (fatty pork ramen), Gyoza (Pan friend dumplings), and a Banana Cider (banana soda).
I’m pretty picky about my ramen so I have to say, I wasn’t too impressed. To be fair though, I have a cold and I wasn’t tasting much of anything. So it may not be the ramen’s fault. I liked the noodle texture, nice and firm. But I didn’t care for the broth or the pile of pepper they threw on there as well. I also prefer the large negi and not the small shallots on top. The pork was definately nothing to write home about. They obviously don’t make it themselves. Next time I’ll try the miso ramen, see if that makes a difference.
Gyoza are one of my favorite foods in Japan but these ones fell short. The filling had a good taste, but they had been over steamed. There was actually a bit of water inside them. Bleh. They needed way more crunch, less water. On the plus side, I think they were hand made. Pretty impressive since most places use frozen.
Banana Cider, no complaints. Nice and banana-ish.
Total cost, about ¥1,500.
I’m going to give this ramen place 2 CHOPSTICKS out of 5, pending further review.
