Actress Chiaki Kuriyama (Battle Royale, Kill Bill ) will make her singing debut with a little help from Mobile Suit Gundam.

Kuriyama will be providing the theme song to the upcoming Mobile Suit Gundam Unicorn anime. Kuriyama, re-naming herself CHiAKi KURiYAMA, will release the single entitled “Ryusei no Namida” on February 24. Kuriyama’s single will be sold in three versions: a regular edition, a limited CD+DVD edition, and a limited-time Gundam edition.

Bandai Visual‘s first Blu-ray Disc volume for the series will have a simultaneous international release on March 12 in Japan and  North America. Bandai Visual announced on January 14 that the first DVD will be on sale on the Amazon website exclusively for two months starting March 12.

This is definently a first for anime in America. Will this release method by Bandai Visual succeed or will the steep price keep people away? Only time will tell.
